ASU mandates 10-15 day furloughs

All the faculty and staff at ASU got an email from President Michael Crow late this afternoon, announcing mandatory furloughs to meet at least part of the expected state budget cuts. The full message is posted on the ASU web site along with a video.

The number of furloughed days depends on employment classification:
  • University administrators (including the president, vice presidents and deans) – 15 days
  • Classified staff – 10 days
  • All other employees – 12 days

The furloughs are expected to save $24 million between now and June 30, the end of the fiscal year, but the university's total budget cuts may be much larger.

So basically 10-15 days of unpaid work, unless you want to spend just as much time cleaning up the messes that develop in the time off. Gee, what a good deal...
